The Circassian Repatriation Organization Honors Dr. Adel Abdelsalam Lash with the Lifetime Achievement Award

In a distinguished ceremony, the Circassian Repatriation Organization (CRO), in cooperation with the Circassian Charity Association in Syria, held a special event on Friday, May 2, 2025, to honor Dr. Adel Abdelsalam Lash, awarding him the organization’s Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his exceptional contributions to the Circassian nation.

The ceremony took place at the association’s hall in Qudsaya and was attended by a delegation from the Turkish Embassy in Damascus, as well as prominent Circassian figures, representatives of the association’s branches, and local residents.

The event began with welcoming remarks from Mr. Samer Ismail, member of the Qudsaya branch board, followed by a speech from Dr. Ghassan Shoura, president of the association, who praised Dr. Adel’s lifelong dedication to preserving the Circassian language, culture, and historical documentation. He also extended appreciation to the CRO for its efforts.

Mr. Nihad Soukar, representing the Circassian Repatriation Organization, introduced the organization’s mission, goals, membership structure, official relations, and future plans. He highlighted some of CRO’s key accomplishments, including support for returnees, funding small projects, and offering educational scholarships.

A brief biography of Dr. Adel was then presented by Mr. Adnan Qabartai, outlining his rich academic and professional legacy, including his work in cartography, geography, education, and linguistic and cultural preservation across multiple countries. Dr. Adel has authored numerous books, atlases, dictionaries, and scientific papers, and is regarded as one of the most influential intellectuals in the Circassian world.

The ceremony continued with personal recollections and tributes, culminating in the formal presentation of the award by Mr. Nihad Soukar. Dr. Adel also received a commemorative plaque from the Qudsaya branch and a symbolic gift from Ms. Haya Qarmouqa a Circassian traditional hat, which he graciously wore.

In his closing remarks, Dr. Adel expressed his heartfelt gratitude and emphasized the importance of preserving Circassian traditions and ensuring the transmission of the Circassian language to future generations.

Guests were then invited to a reception prepared by the Women’s Committee, where traditional hospitality was offered, and meaningful discussions took place about community concerns and Circassian heritage.

The Circassian Repatriation Organization extends its sincere appreciation to all who contributed to the success of this celebration and reaffirms its commitment to honoring Circassian cultural and academic figures, strengthening the identity of our people, and supporting their connection to their historical homeland.
